During his Italian tour, after visiting Treviso, Rimini, and Corinaldo in the province of Ancona (for the Dolce India Festival held at the Ashram of Master Swami Joythimayananda), the well-known Indian Ayurvedic doctor Atul Rakshe also stopped in Torraca (at the center of Dr. Annibale D’Angelo, psychotherapist and expert in Ayurvedic medicine, together with yoga teacher Claudia Riess), Pagani (at the “Jaya” Academy of naturopath Michela De Risi), and Sapri (at the holistic center “Kendra”, run by yoga teacher and Ayurvedic practitioner Eléna Bas Sarrias)!

I meet him in Sapri for a pleasant conversation over a cup of Indian tea, kindly prepared by Eléna.

I am here” he tells me immediately with a warm smile, “to open your eyes!

He speaks in English but assures me that he will soon learn the Italian language.

Among the thirteen Blue Zones” he continues, “where people live for more than one hundred years, there is also your Sardinia! There, men and women walk uphill very often, they keep doing the same work for a long time, and they are happy!

The Ayurveda” he explains, “is a traditional system of Indian medicine that aims to promote holistic well-being of the individual. It provides excellent remedies for many autoimmune disorders such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, polycystic ovaries, obesity, peptic acid disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, and many others.

Dr. Rakshe, who in Pune, a large industrial city in Maharashtra, runs a wellness center together with his wife, a pediatrician, ends our conversation by sharing some useful advice:

drink regularly warm water with a pinch of ginger powder, go to the bathroom soon after waking up, sleep well, oil your body to keep it balanced, practice self-massage, eat—after middle age—sunflower, flax, and sesame seeds, and of course, attend yoga and meditation sessions!

He bids me farewell gently, bowing with hands joined at his chest, and after admiring the incomparable scenic beauty of the coast between Maratea and Scario, he says with a serene smile:

You live in a paradise!
